It's difficult to figure out how much text to include on a page. I used to try to keep everything on a single page so as to make it easy for people to print out a whole document. I still do this with some of my writing. If, for example, an article is complete in itself (such as this piece on gender and mythology), I don't personally like to break it up.
If, however, a page is primarily a set of links to other pages, I prefer to break those up. Take, for example, my fun stuff page. It's broken up into small sections, each of which has a few links. I used to have this all compounded into a single page, which took ages to load and probably annoyed a lot of people. Notice that I also use the same background image in each of those pages, so as to make them load more quickly. Another good suggestion is that if you have a set of pages which are diary entries, or chronicles of a set of events, you can easily break them down day by day. Or, instead, if you have pages which can easily be split into different categories, you can have a single main page, linking to subcategories (my gender issues page does this). |
